10 month photo shoot

The attempt anyway!

As you can see Owen LOVES to tackle Sarah.  And Sarah just loves to run away.
We tried :) As Kaleb likes to say, "ya get what ya get, and ya don't throw a fit"

6 months

Now that they are almost 7 :)

I know it's been said many times before, but I'll say it again, time goes by too fast!!  Crazy that they are already six months old!

Owen weighed in at 14 lbs 3.5 oz. and 24 inches long
Sarah barley beat him at 14 lbs. 7.5 oz and 24 1/4 inches long
Finally, at about 6 1/2 months we started them on some cereal

They have started eating it better, and some veggies, but still make just as big a mess!

Birthmark

Last night while supposed to be going to bed, Jenna colored on her self. And yes, at 5 pm the next day, I still have not washed it off... When Jeff got home from work he asked her what was on her face, she replied "It's a birthmark".  I guess she decided she needed a birthmark/stork bite on her forehead like Sarah and Owen both have :)

She got most of it it the right spot anyway :)

And while we are taking such awesome pictures....

The Story

I guess it's about time I got around to this...better do it before I forget everything! ;)

I had been on bed rest for 4 weeks, the longest 4 weeks ever! Been in and out of the hospital a couple times, and had told Jeff that I wasn't going in again unless I was having hard contractions. The ones I'd been having weren't painful at all. My stomach would just tighten, and then relax, but where I had already started dilating, at 31 weeks I was a 2, we'd go in anytime I'd have regular contractions to make sure I wasn't progressing.  They also put me on the medicine procardia, which is a blood pressure medicine, but helps stop contractions.
I had a Dr. appointment at 11:45 on the 16th, exactly 35 weeks.  I'd been having super bad reflux, so he was going to give me something stronger than Tums to help with that.  Then he checked me. I was a 4 1/2-5.   When he checked me it made my cervix bleed a bit, he looked at his hand and asked if that was something new. I was like, uh yeah...I probably would've let you know if I'd been bleeding ;) So he decided to send me upstairs (L&D is on the 2nd floor) to be monitored for a bit.   I called Jeff and let him know what was going on and that I'd call again after I knew more to keep him updated, he was back at work.  After about an hour and a half they checked me again and I was almost a 6, and he said we'd be having babies that night or the next day!  I called Jeff and let him know that he better get on his way.  At one point during a previous hospital stay he had said that if I got to a 6 he would break my water.  He didn't break my water at that point because 1. I wasn't going to let him without Jeff there, and B. He wanted to give me antibiotics just in case I was group B strep positive, which need to be in you for 4 hours before your water breaks. My labor was SO easy.  My contractions were not ever painful, such a breeze.  Jeff got there about 6, he was good and didn't speed too much on the way down :) I was dilated to an 8, but I still had another hour before Dr. Horsley wanted to break my water.  Around 7 I was about an 8 1/2 so I got an epidural, so that I didn't miss my chance, still was not in any pain.  Right after I got it they moved me into the O.R.  (they deliver twins in there just in case they have to do an emergency c-section)   He came in and broke my water, the sac that Owen was in.  We originally thought that once my water broke things would go quite quickly, not so much, they kinda slowed right down.  The Dr. kept going in and out of the O.R., checking each time to see if I had progressed any more.  After the 2nd time he decided to hang some pitocin. When he came in again the next time and I still hadn't changed, he decided to stretch my cervix.  Yep, sure am glad I got that epidural now! He said I was a good 9-9 1/2 and went out again.  The nurse checked me a few minutes later and I was complete, time to start pushing!! They called everyone in, and it seemed like everyone! There was Jeff and I of course, Dr. Horsley, my L&D nurse, a L&D CNA, 2 respiratory therapists, 2 NICU nurses, and the pediatrician.  Good thing it was a good sized room :)  They had an ultrasound machine right there so that we could see what position Sarah was in once Owen came out.  The week before, the 9th, both babies were head down.  Somehow in that week, with very limited space, Sarah managed to turn and was breech :(  It was still possible to flip her and have her vaginally, but it also increased the chances of having her via c-section. After a few pushes I could feel/see his head. A few more pushes and "baby A" was born, 9:02 PM 4 lbs. 9 oz. 17 inches long.  He was crying good! He got him all suctioned out, had Jeff cut the cord, turned him so I could see for a second, and handed him off to the nurses to get him all checked out.

After Owen was born he tried to turn Sarah so she was head down, with no luck.  As long as she came feet first we'd be ok, but if she tried to come bum, shoulder, one leg first or anything, we'd have problems and probably have to do a c-section.  Since she was in her own sac of water we had a minute to before we had to worry too much.  Dr. Horsley got a hold of one foot pretty easily, but was having a hard time getting the other one.  He would say something like "no, that's fingers....that's bum..." He was a little nervous that the water would break and just one leg would come out.  He was finally able to find her other foot, but whenever he tried to grab it, she'd jerk it away :)All of the sudden I felt my water break. Luckily when it happened, her other foot came down as he was able to get a hold of it.  He pulled her legs out, had me push a couple times, had me wait while he maneuvered her shoulders, had me push a couple more times, and she was here! "Baby B" was born at 9:09 PM 5 lbs 2 oz and 17 inches long.  She didn't make a peep and was a little greyish colored.  He suctioned her out good, had Jeff cut the cord, and seriously just flipped her upright, said "here she is" and handed her off to the NICU nurses so quickly, it was a bit nerve wracking!
They were over there flipping her feet and stretching her out trying to get her to cry, but she still hardly made a sound.  I was super nervous because I couldn't hear her crying and didn't really know what was going on.  After what seemed like forever Jeff came over and told me she was fine, she just didn't want to cry.  She's still usually the quieter of the two :)

They whisked them of to the NICU to check their blood sugars and all that fun stuff.  The pediatrician said they'd probably just be there over night, HA!  I don't know if he was crazy for saying that, or if I was crazy for believing him :)
